THE TIBSHELF BLACKOUT

After a bit of a sort about in the records it seems that the month and year in question was December, 1990.  Just before Christmas and everyone's freezers went up the spout due to a power cut that lasted almost a week.  The power failure was caused by extreme weather that caused snowstorms, gales and an accumulation of ice on the power lines.  Together this brought many of the power lines down resulting in a loss of power to many rural areas, Tibshelf being one of them.  The village was virtually cut off for a few days and the whole of this area was at a standstill.  Here follows a few views to jog memories.  Use the back arrow in your browser to exit this page.
